Two major river which are navigable for longest distance:

~>Definitely, the river Ganga is longest navigable river in India .Allahabad to Haldia with an distance of 1620 km. The national waterway 1 run through the Ganges, Bhagirathi and Hooghly river system with having fixed terminals at Haldia, Farrakka and Patna and floating terminals at most of the riverside cities like Kolkata, Bhagalpur,Varanasi and Allahabad. It will be the longest National Waterway in India.

~>Godavari is one of the longest rivers in south India and it is 2nd longest navigable waterway in India. National Waterway 4 connect Kakinada to Pondicherry through Canals, Tank and River Godavari along with Krishna river. The NW 4 the second longest waterway of India with total length of 1095 km in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

A body of water, such as a river, canal or lake, is navigable in the following conditions.

1. If it is deep, wide and slow enough for a vessel to pass or walk.

2. There should not be many obstructions such as rocks or trees.

3. Bridges must have sufficient clearance.

4. High water speed may make a channel unnavigable.
