The 2 properties of carbon are- (i) Catenation and (ii) Tetravalency

Catenation

Catenation is the binding of an element to itself through covalent bonds to form chain or ring molecules. Carbon can form large chains or rings(catenation) since it has only 4 valence electrons and it can't give or take any electrons.

Tetravalency

Tetravalency is the ability of an element which doesn't only allow it to make bonds with the same element, but with many different elements.

For example, carbon can not only make bonds with carbon, but it can make bonds with many different elements.
