i) catenation : this ability of the carbon element to share electron with other elementsto attain stability enable it to form more number of compound
ii)tetravalency : the above ability I.e., catenation is done only because carbon has 4 valence electrons it can neither lose nor gain electron to attain stability (because of energy consideration I.e., if it gains 4electrons it will be difficult for the nucleus to hold 4more electrons and it is difficult to remove 4electron because to remove electron it requires high ionisation energy
