What is democracy?
The word democracy has been derived from two Greek words 'Demos' and 'Cratia' which respectively mean 'people' and 'power'. It means a type of govering system where the power to govern rests with the people and administration is either done directly by the people or through their representatives.
Democracy means a system of governance where public welfare is of almost importance Democracy is not confined to system of governance. It's a form of state and a society. Therefore it is a mixture of state, society and governance. Democracy gives the people the power to rule, to control and to dismiss the government. As a form of a society democracy is a social system where the throught and behaviour of equality is confirmed. There must be equal importance to dignity of individuals and all must have equal opportunities of growth. It's a way of life. It's a system of values where the individuals welfare is the end and the development of personality its good. It is based on the pre-conceived nation of freedom, compatibility and mutual co-opretion.
