speed= distance/time,

this means that speed is supposed to be the distance you have covered and how much time you took to cover that distance. for example, lets say that a train is going at 200km/ h or two hundred kilometres per hour means that the train can cover 200km in one hour. to find the average of time than you will have to find the average time it took to cover a particular distance.
