Chemicals are divided into inorganic and organic compounds which give rise to study fields of inorganic and organic chemistry. Organic chemicals are further grouped into biochemicals that form a study of biochemistry and then those organic molecules that are not essential to growth and survival of animals, plants and organisms.

I suggest that you acquire books on organic, inorganic and biochemistry to provide yourself with a chemist’s knowledge of compounds in answer to your question. Start with inorganic chemistry, then organic chemistry followed by biochemistry which, without mastering organic chemistry, would be extremely difficult to grasp. You may well get side-tracked into studying physical chemistry on the way.

Molecules of elements are made up of same atoms . Eg - H2 , F2 , Cl2 , S8 etc.

While molecules of a compound are made up of different kinds of atoms . Eg - H2O , CO2 ,CCl3 etc.
