It is done for own consumption.in this a plot of land is cleared then the plot of land is bunt and the ashes are mixed with the soil and farming is done when the land loss it's fertility then the switch to another land these process of cultivation is known as"jhumming"or "jhum farming".

Eg.of subsistence farming is shifting cultivature.
