what are the types of fungi?
Answers
Answer:
Around 120,000 species of fungi have been described by taxonomists, but the global biodiversity of the fungus kingdom is not fully understood. A 2017 estimate suggests there may be between 2.2 and 3.8 million species. In mycology, species have historically been distinguished by a variety of methods and concepts.
Fungi are eukaryotic organisms, like plants and animals. Unlike plants, they don't perform photosynthesis and they have chitin, a derivative of glucose, in their cell walls. Like animals, fungi are heterotrophs, which means they get their nutrients by absorbing them.
Subkingdom Dikarya: Ascomycota and Basidiomycota
The most familiar fungi probably belong to the subkingdom Dikarya, which includes all mushrooms, most pathogens, yeast, and molds. Subkingdom Dikarya is broken into two phyla, Ascomycota and Basidiomycota. These phyla and the other five that have been proposed are differentiated based mainly on sexual reproductive structures.
