Primary lateral meristem is divided into two types:-

  • 1. Marginal meristem

  • 2. Intravascular cambium

Some points on marginal meristem are as follows:-

A. It is usually seen in young leaf in the margin.

B. Thickness in the type does not increases.

C. In this width gets increase only.

D. It takes responsibility of the overall growth of the plant.

Some points on intrafascular meristem are as follows:-

A. Characteristic feature of this is that it occurs in bundles.

B. It is found in dicot stems.

C. It is also seen in gymnosperm stems as well.

  • There are two types of lateral meristem, the cork cambium and the vascular cambium. The cork cambium creates the periderm, which replaces the outer layer of the plant. The vascular cambium creates new vascular tissue in plants.
