There's card modem, which should be plugged into a system to use.


There's  external modem, which can be installed outside, and it's very simple to use. This type includes Wi Fi modems, internet modems etc..


There's also internal modem, it's built into the PC or laptop, used to communicate or transfer software, files etc....frm system to system.
