WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF NEURONS?
Answers
NCERT based Answer for Class 11 Biology Students
Types of neurons:
1. Multipolar: Neuron with one axon and many dendrites is called multipolar neuron. Most of the neurons in brain and spinal cord are multipolar.
2. Bipolar: Neuron with one axon and one dendrite is bipolar. Bipolar neurons occur in retina of eye and internal ear.
3. Unipolar: Cyton with only one process is unipolar. Unipolar neurons usually occur in embryonic stage.
4. Myelinated nerve fibers:
These are enveloped with Schwann cells, which form a myelin sheath around axon.
Gaps between two adjacent myelin sheaths are called nodes of Ranvier.
Myelinated nerve fibers are found in spinal and cranial nerves.
5. Unmyelinated nerve fibers:
These are enveloped with Schwann cells, which do not form myelin sheath around axon.
These are commonly found in autonomous and somatic neural system.
