What are the uses of sodium hyrogencarbonate ( NaHCO3)
Answers
❇️Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate are used in making baking powder
❇️used in fire extinguisher
❇️Baking soda thus are used in medicines as an antacid
❇️In the manufacture of aerated water
❇️used to make cleanliness of tiles
❇️when hydrogencarbonate reacts with water
NaHCO3+H2O---->NaOH+H2Co3
❇️The hydrogencarbonate is also known as sodium bicarbonate or bicarbonate of soda
❇️The effect of light intensity on photosynthesis can be investigated in water plants so hydrogencarbonate and water be react
Following are some uses of Baking Soda:
- It is used to prepare baking powder, which is a mixture of baking soda, and a mild, edible acid (like tartaric acid, present in tamarind or imli). This neutralises the bitter taste of baking soda and also gives out carbon-dioxide gas along with water.
2NaHCO₃ + H⁺ (from any acid) ------------------> Na₂CO₃ + H₂O + CO₂
- It is used in soda-acid fire extinguishers because when it reacts with acids, carbon-dioxide gas and water are given off, which extinguish fires.
2NaHCO₃ + H₂SO₄ ------------------> Na₂SO₄ + 2H₂O + 2CO₂
- It is also used for faster cooking and, to rise bread or cake while baking.
2NaHCO₃ -----Δ-------> Na₂CO₃ + H₂O + CO₂
Note:- When it is heated, carbon-dioxide gas is given off, which makes the bread or cake to rise.
More to Know:
- Baking soda is the common name for sodium hydrogen carbonate or bicarbonate.
- It is prepared by adding ammonia and carbon-dioxide to brine (sodium chloride solution in water).
NaCl + H₂O + CO₂ + NH₃ ---------> NaHCO₃ + NH₄Cl
