- Brain is encased and protected by the skull. It is related to vital life processes like breathing, heart rate on one hand and controls thought processes, memory, emotions of an individual, on the other hand.
- The brain is divided into three main parts: Cerebrum, cerebellum and the brain stem :
- The Cerebrum: This part of the brain controls planned muscle movement like walking. Besides, the cerebrum also controls emotions, speech, thinking, learning as well. The sensory functions like vision and hearing are also supervised and controlled by this part of the brain. The cerebrum is divided into left and right hemispheres. The right half controls the left side of the human body and vice-versa.
- The Cerebellum: This part of the brain occupies the back position of the brain and deals with co-ordination and fine muscle control, balance of the body, maintains posture and equilibrium of the body.
- The Brain Stem: Found at the bottom of the brain, it connects the cerebrum with the spinal cord. It controls vital involuntary functions such as- breathing, eye movements, blood pressure, swallowing of food and so on.
