The Siberian crane's elongated neck and bill help it survive in the aquatic environment. For walking and looking for food on the ground it has long bare legs and wide toes. In winter it is very harsh/extremely cold in the Taiga, and so it migrates out of the biome to other places like India, China, Pakistan, Mongolia, Korea and nearby places. Finally it has strong and sharp eyesight which helps it look for predators and prey.

Adaptive features in a Siberian crane

Explanation:

Siberian crane-

Nomenclature -Leucogeranus leucogeranus .

Family- Gruidae (cranes).

Color-  Mostly snow-white with black primary feathers.

Habitat- Tundra. (migrate during winters)

Characteristic adaptive features

1) The neck and bill are elongated to help survive in aquatic environment.

2) It has wide toes and long bare legs for walking and finding food.

3) It migrates away from tundra to escape the freezing winters.

4) They possess a sharp eyesight which helps in locating prey and predators.

5) An average wingspan of 230 cm greatly helps the crane during migration. The wingspan facilitates gliding where the wings do not need to be flapped frequently thus conserving energy and enabling the cranes to travel large distances without stopping.
