In our times we use maps for various purposes like
For the traveling purpose,for knowing the population of particular place,to know weather of a place by looking into the weather maps,for knowing the fertility of soils,to know the time (by calculating the latitude and the longitude),to know where the natural resources lie.

Maps are used for various purposes for trade, sailing, for conquest, colonising, for fighting wars. At present maps are prepared to show water resources, rainfall, groundwater, rivers, building dams, agricultural developments, setting up of new industries, building roads, hospitals and schools.
