Executive:
Executive is one of the three organs of the government. The word executive means a body of persons that looks after the implementation of rules and regulations. In other words, the organ of government that primarily looks after the function of implementation and administration is called the executive. The executive branch not only includes President, Prime Minister and Minsters(Political Executive)but also the Civil Servants(Permanent Executive).
Functions:
- It is responsible for the implementation of laws and policies adopted by the legislature.
- It is often involved in framing of policy.
Types:
The types of the executive are based on the system of government.
a) System based on the principles of collective leadership.
This consists of both Parliamentary and Semi Presidential system.
Under the Parliamentary system, the head of the government is usually know as Prime Minister whereas the head of the state may be Monarch(Constitutional Monarchy) or President(Parliamentary Republic). Both the Monarch and President are Ceremonial Executive.
Under the Semi Presidential system, the head of the state is President and Prime Minister is the head of government.
b) System based on individual leadership:
This includes the Presidential System, where the president is the head of the state and also the head of government. The president is directly elected by the people.
