Thank you for asking this question from us. There are three types of love shown in the play: 1) love of a friend, 2) love of father and daughter, 3) married love / romantic love. The strongest love among y'all is the love of daughter and father as it includes the respect in it too. The strong bonding of Portia has shown with her father that she even goes with the will of his father in the selection of her life partner.

The play ‘The Merchant of Venice’ features three different types of love. They are:

# The love Antonio has for Bassanio – the love a friend has for another friend.

# The love Portia has for her father

# The love Portia has for Bassanio – the love a wife has for her husband.

Among the above, it is the first one that is the strongest. While the other two types are bound to happen because of family ties, there is absolutely no reason for Antonio to agree to the cruel agreement of giving Shylock a pound of his flesh if he was not able to pay the amount that he borrowed for Bassanio in the stipulated time. Yet, he was ready to do this for his friend who was in no way related to him.
