The ways to reduce friction are :-

• By lubricanting the surface : It is one of the most common method to reduce friction. some special substance called lubricants like oil and grease are applied on moving part of machine, this forms of thin layer between two surface and subsurface do not directly of rub each other. Thus, the movement become a smooth.

• By polishing the surface : when a surface is polished, the irregularities of the surface are covered them ,making them smooth ,thus reducing friction greatly.

• By using Wheels and balls bearing : Ball bearings and wheels reduce friction by converting sliding friction into rolling friction. This helps to reduce friction between the two surfaces in contact and also helps to save energy. It is for this reason that wheels are fitted on the suitcases.

• By streamlined the shape of an object : Aeroplanes, boats and other vehicles are made streamline in shape to reduce the resistance offered by air.
