x=58-24

> x=34

→ x + y = 58 ......... ( 1 )

Difference of numbers is 18

→ x - y = 18 ......... ( 2 )

On solving ( 1 ) and ( 2 )

x + y = 58

x - y = 18

→ 2x = 76

→ x = 76/2

→ x = 38

Substitute value of x in ( 1 )

→ x + y = 58

→ 38 + y = 58

→ y = 58 - 38

→ y = 20

∴ 38 and 20 are the numbers
