what are three types of diffusion
Answers
Answer:
The two types of diffusion are :
Passive diffusion and facilitated diffusion.
Passive-It is the movement of molecules across a semi-permeable membrane without the help of protein channels.
Facilitated-It is the flow of molecules down a concentration gradient, across a membrane, but requires the help of protein.
we normally take simple diffusion and facilitated as separate cases and explain active transport along but specifically speaking diffusion is of two types.
Explanation:
1.Simple diffusion in which the substances cross a membrane down a concentration gradient without use if any carrier or energy .
2.Facilitated diffusion is the one in which the substances go down the concentration gradient but they require carrier proteins for this purpose .As in taking an example of the plasma membrane ,it is made up of phospholipids, so the substances that are not lipids soluble cannot pass easily thereby require carrier proteins . But this type of diffusion does not require energy but is affected by presence if inhibitors and shows saturation effect as in only the protein carries can carry limited about of substances
3.Active transport involves the use of ATP ( adenosine triphosphate ) and occurs against the concentration gradient .This also requires carrier proteins for the purpose to be solved .they too show saturation effect and get inhibited by various kinds of inhibitor present that depends upon the type of Carrie's protein involved.
