Tidal forests

These forests are found along the coasts and in deltas, the regions which are often flooded by the high tides of the sea, hence they are called tidal forests.

They have mangrove trees which can survive in both fresh and saline water. So they are also called mangrove forests.

They are mainly found in the deltas of the Ganga, Mahanadi, Godavari and krishna rivers and along the eastern coasts. They are mainly restricted to the sundarbans in West Bengal and in Andmam and Nicobar Islands. The Ganga-Brahmaputra delta in West Bengal is known as sundarbans, as the forests here are full of sundri trees. The wood of these trees is durable and is used for making boats and for construction.
