Tides are periodic rises and falls of large bodies of water. Tides are caused by the gravitational interaction between the Earth and the Moon. Thegravitational attraction of the moon causes the oceans to bulge out in thedirection of the moon.

<b>• Tides are rhythmic rise and fall of ocean water. <b>

• It occurs only twice in nearly 24 hours.

• They are caused due to the gravitational force acting on water of earth by the Sun as well as by the Moon.

• When the Earth, the Moon and the Sun are in a straight line then the gravitational force acted upon earth is the sum the forces of sun and moon and hence comparatively high.

• They do not cause destructions generally.

• They are a source of food for certain organisms that remain sticked on rocks.
