• A Characteristic feature is called trait.

→ There are 2 kinds of traits in every organism.

Inherited traits :

→ These are those characters which are transferred from one generation to another. Eg : height , skin colour, blood group etc...

→ Bring changes in the DNA of germ cells.

→ Can direct evolution.

→ Can be passed on to the progeny.

Acquired traits :

→ Certain traits are acquired by organisms in their life.

→ In this that cannot be passed from one generation to the next generation.

→ Cannot direct evolution.

→ Cannot be passed on to the progeny.
