Transitive and intransitive verbs:-

A transitive verb has two characteristics.

Firstly it is an action verb meaning its a "doing word", which shows action

Example: kick, sleep, walk, write, eat, etc.

2- It must have a direct object, something or someone who receives the action of the verb.

like, transitive: The motivational speaker discussed different approaches to happiness in the video.

Intransitive:

However, intransitive, are some verbs, such as arrive, go, lie and die. In these it is impossible for a direct object to follow.

- this is intransitive: example huffing and puffing

Answer:

A transitive verb is a verb in which an action takes on a direct object.

An intransitive verb can be defined as a verb that does not take a direct object.
