The formation of soils are done by weathering of material (which includes sediments, rocks etc) which are deposited by the water bodies near their shore
Transported soil.
Transported soil are those type of soil which are transported away their origin place. The soils are transported to different places by natural agents like water, wind, ice, snow etc.
Alluvial soil as transported soil.
Alluvial soils are called transported soil because although they are formed near the water bodies, these soils get transported from their origin to several other places by various natural agents especially by gravity.

- The alluvial soil is made up of particles like silt, sand and clay and has adequate amount of phosphoric acid, potash and lime.

- The older alluvium known as Bangar
- The newer alluvium known as Khadar
- The alluvial soil covers total of 40% of the land.
- These soils are found in northern plains beginning from Punjab to West Bengal and Assam.
- It is also found in deltas of river like Krishna, Godavari, Kaveri and Mahanadi in the peninsular India.
- The main crops cultivated are wheat, rice, maize, sugarcane, pulses and oilseeds.
