What are transposable genetic elements? Who discovered them? In what plant were they first discovered? Why was this discovery so important?

Transposable genetic elements are DNA sequence that can change it's position within a genome, sometimes creating or reversing mutations and altering the cell's genetic identity and genome size.

2) Barbara McClintock discovered them in 1948 . Even she was awarded a Noble Prize for this.
