Tributaries are also known as affluent are small rivers and streams which flow together to form into a large waterbody, which can be either a bigger stream or a river.
Sometimes very clearly visible on a valley or mountainous area where small streams can be observed to flow into the river.
Hence, a river usually has multiple tributaries, never a single one.
