Binocular stereo microscope is also called stereoscopic microscope or dissecting microscope which is a visual instrument with  three-dimensional  erect  image.

In biology and medical domain, it is widely used to sectioning operation and micro-surgery, and also In small workpiece and integrated circuit observation, assembly and inspections etc works.

Features as below:

It used double light paths, those 2 beams of light in the binocular tube are not parallel, but there is a certain Angle that named stereo angle (usually it is 12 to 15 degree) provides a third dimension image for the left eye and the right eye. It essentially places two monocular microscopes in juxtaposition, which optical axes of the two lens cones constituted as the viewing angle of people use eyes to observe an object, to form the third dimension stereo vision image. The image is erect which easy to operation and dissection. That is because the prism under the eyepiece reverse the image.Although the magnification is not as the common microscope, but its working distance is long.Large depth of focus, easy to observe the full thickness of test objects.diameter of field is large.

hope it helps you.
