The two special integuments are:

(1) Aril: It is the type of third integument which develops from funicle at the base of the ovule. e.g. Myristica, Asphodelus and Litchi.

(2) Caruncle: It is also known as strophiole. It is formed because of the proliferation that means out growth of outer integuments over the micropyle. e.g. Ricinus communis (castor). It is made up of sugary contents. It is helpful in

absorption of water during germination of seeds & dispersal of seeds occurs by ants which is known as myrmecochory.
