Both the types of oxygen which are found in atmosphere are allotropes of Oxygen atom . They are present as O2 and O3 . O2 which is used by living organism for respiration to survive over the Earth . And O3 being present in the Ozone layer of Stratosphere protects the
Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiations coming out from the Sun which can provide an adverse effect on the living organisms causing various disease related with skin cancer , cataract etc. Hence , the presence of both these oxygen forms plays a vital role in the atmosphere . Hence , they are important .

The atmosphere protects living things from the Sun's most harmful rays. Gases reflect or absorb the strongest rays of sunlight (Figure below). The atmosphere shields Earth from the most harmful solar rays.
