Stoichiometric defects

  • Vacancy :- when constituents particle missing, then vacancy defects occurs.

  • Frenkel :- the defect in which an ion is displaced from its regular position creating a vacancy. Such type of defects is called frenkel defects Or dislocation defect.

  • Schottky :- Detect in which pair of one cation and one anion of equal valence is missing from an ionic crystal leading to a pair of vacant sites. Such type of defects is known as schottky defect.

Non - stoichiometric defects:-

  • Metal excess defect:- The defects occurs due to anionic vacancies or due to the presence of extra cations at the interstitial site.

  • Metal deficiency defect :- The defect occurs due to absence of positive ions from lattice site or extra interstitial negative ions.
