hydrocarbons are the compounds which are only made up of hydrogen and carbon

they  are of two types aliphatic and aromatic

aliphatic HC are the hydrocarbons which are in open structure

aromatic are the HC which are represented in ring structures

note that HC represents hydrocarbons.

aliphatic HC are further divided into saturated and unsaturated HCs

saturated HC are those having single bonds and are soluble in water and are also known as alkanes

whereas unsaturated HCs are those having double or triple bonds not easily soluble in water and are also known as alkenes (for double bond)alkynes (for triple bonds)

hope it helps!!!
