What are vectors? How do they help in disease transmission?

  • Vector are Organism that functions as a carrier of pathogens between organisms of a different species, including mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and tsetse flies.

  • Vector-borne diseases are infections transmitted by the bite of infected arthropod species.

  • Mosquitoes are the best known disease vector. Others include flies, fleas, bugs, freshwater aquatic snails, etc.

  • Diseases transmitted by vectors :- malaria, dengue, Chikungunya, etc.
