The angles opposite to each other on either side of the two intersecting lines are called Vertically Opposite Angles.

Here, in the above given figure, two straight lines AM and NC intersect each other.
Therefore, The two angles marked with red color i.e., 1 and 2 are vertically opposite angles and they both are equal in magnitude.
