The small finger like projection in the small intestine is called villi. They are present in small intestine.

Functions :

$\leadsto$ Villi are supplied with a network of capillaries and the lacteal. they help in Absorption of fatty acids and glycerol in intestinal mucosa.

$\leadsto$ The absorbed food is delivered to each and every cell of the body.

$\leadsto$ The villi produce numerous microscopic projections called microvilli. they increase the surface area enormously.

$\leadsto$ Mucosa( the innermost lining the lumen of the the alimentary canal) forms gastric glands and cypts in between the bases of villi in the intestine.
