Villi are small finger like outgrowth that help in process of absorption.

Villi are present in the inner walls of small intestine.

It's function is to help to absorb digested food. It increases the surface area of small intestine.

• These villi do not add in the digestion of nutrients , but they help to absorb nutrients.

• The small intestine is a part of digestive tract which connects the stomach and large intestine.

• In the inner walls of small intestine , these finger like projections are present which are approximately 0.5 to 1.6 mm in length.

• Villi increase the absorption area in the internal surface of small intestine and act as semipermeable membrane through which amino acids and monosaccharides are absorbed. This decreases the distance travelled by nutrients . It makes the absorption process easier.
