Write the function of each.
- White Blood Cells or Leucocytes are colourless blood cells.
- They are colourless because they are devoid of haemoglobin.
- White blood cells are further classified as : lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils and basophils.
Function:-
- WBCs mainly contribute to immunity and defence mechanism.
- They are responsible for fighting foreign pathogens (such as bacteria, viruses, fungi) that enter our body.
- RBC, also known as erythrocytes, are the principal means of delivering oxygen to the body tissues via blood flow through the circulatory system.
- They contain iron-rich protein called haemoglobin which gives blood its characteristic red colour.
Function:-
- Red blood cells carry oxygen from our lungs to the rest of our bodies.
- Then they make the return trip, taking carbon dioxide back to our lungs to be exhaled.
- Platelets (thrombocytes) are colorless blood cells and are disc-like shape in structure.
Function:-
- Platelets help our blood to clot.
- They help to regulate blood flow when any part of the body is damaged, thereby aiding in fast recovery through clotting of blood.
❥ Hope it helps.
