The Hindu caste system is stereotypical and full of discrimination. Though it was made according to people's occupation and social positions gradually it became 'Right of succession'.
Hindu culture includes the caste system in the list of the social hierarchy and it is running for about three thousand years. It is divided into four different casts(Jati) - Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras. It was named ' Chaturvarna System' From the very beginning the cast was not forced to people but as time passed it turns into social strata. For this caste discrimination, many lost their lives protesting, many were haunted for the rest of their lives.
- The disadvantages are-
- It prohibits the equal rights of all persons in society. This is against the constitution.
- Superstitions like 'Sati', 'Child marriage', 'untouchability' are the horrid past of the Hindu caste system.
- It made one cast superior (Brahmins) and the others in the inferior section.
- It consists of no social mobility, which is a reason that our social-economic condition is stagnant.
- Hindu cast, to some extent, imposes lots of hardship for women to survive in society.
- The advantages are -
- At an early age choosing the 'varna' was an independent decision in the caste system. Because it was divided according to their works.
- The cultural caste system was nothing but a reservation of Hindu traditions.
- The early caste system had some contribution towards society and the economy.
