Natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, typhoons, and hurricanes inflict serious damage and so seem to be bad for the economy. For firms, naturaldisasters destroy tangible assets such as buildings and equipment – as well as human capital – and thereby deteriorate their production capacity.
