He asked for Krishna's Narayani Sena (Narayani Army which was 2 Akshauhinis in size) thereby increasing his military strength. In Duryodhana's mind, he thought he outwitted the Pandavas as he considered Krishna to be a mere mortal and not much of use to the Pandavas, only to be rebuked by Shakuni.
