In the poem "If I Was a Tree" by Mudnakudu Chinnaswamy, the narrator imagines himself as a tree as he has faced the cruel tortures as an untouchable Dalit.

So, the tree becomes a bier for a sinless body carried on the shoulders of the "four good men". Those men who carry corpses on their shoulders are neither untouchables nor touchable to the dead person.

The poet here wants to signify that untouchability is simply a creation of mankind's evil mind. There is no distinction of caste, color, or status after death.
