According to the Anglo Saxon Chronicle, Danelaw is a historical name given to a part of England which contrasts with West Saxon law and Mercian law.

Denelaw was situated between northern and eastern England, and historian found some parts of London and Chester in Denelaw.

Five fortified towns were found within this region such as Leicester, Nottingham, Derby, Stamford and Lincoln, and the East Midlands.
