Inland fisheries help to do the same. It is a combination of 5 or 6 fish species is grown in a single fishpond, which are selected on the basis of their differing food habits — those fishes wouldn't have to compete with one another for their food. Therefore the food available in all the parts of the pond can be utilized. For instance, Catlas are surface feeders, Rohus feed in the middle-zone of the pond, Mrigals and Common Carps are bottom feeders, and Grass Carps feed on the weeds. Together, they can utilise all the food in the pond without competing with each other, thus increases the fish yield from the pond.
