If you have a good imagination you can of course write a good story! because a good story requires a good imagination.
To hold your readers from the first chapter , you should have some well described characters or a mysterious plot that will leave your readers wanting to read more. Describe nicely so that they can imagine and understand what you want to say.
If you are writing a fantasy,described the location of your plot. Don't introduce many characters at once. if its a mystery, give a hint of the crime or murder or whatever it is. The thing is use your own imagination, don't take points from other books,etc.
The most important thing is that the grammar should be correct or readers would be lost.
