The World Environment School will be the first-ever environment school in South Asia and will be located in Coorg, Karnataka. The precise location of the school will be Hoskeri Village in Madikeri Taluk, Kodagu. The idea of choosing this location is that it is the world’s biologically richest area where our students shall inhabit an ecosystem filled with some of the most exotic flora and fauna.
Coorg, also known as Kodagu, a tranquil area in Southern Karnataka cradled in the Western Ghats, fondly known as Scotland of India. It is well known for its beauty, wonderfully varied wildlife, world-class coffee farming and the Kodavas, the ethnic warrior people of Coorg. From the scenic Pushpagiri Reserves to the vast Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuaries, the evergreen Nagarhole National Park or the pristine Devarakadu Valleys, Coorg embodies the magnificence of nature.
Apart from being a beautiful place, Coorg is a quiet area with a pristine environment. The negligible levels of pollution – a problem plaguing so many Indian cities – make it an ideal place for our children to learn to respect the environment. The school is utilizing the location to mitigate the harmful effects of pollution and climate change and so our students will have an opportunity to focus on environmental issues facing the planet. Through this, WESc aims to transform our students into environmental custodians and leaders.
Coorg is a recognized Ecological Sensitive Area. As a result, our students will develop an excellent understanding of the local ecosystem. The school will immerse them in diverse sustainability practices as well as instilling core and traditional values, and provide students with the international recognized academic qualifications to help them become responsible individuals in the future.
The World Environment School will be a residential school educating nearly 550 students from the 6th to 12th grades. At WESc, our students will enhance and develop their interpersonal skills, learn to work independently and collaboratively, pursue excellence, enhance their creativity and grow into mature citizens committed to making a positive contribution to society and the nation. The architecture of the school is designed in such a way that it has a minimum impact on the land, approximately 70% of which remains untouched and stays originally as it was.
