What can be prevented by proper checking of blood before blood donation
Answers
Proper documentation and examination of blood samples is essential before blood donations. This is done to prevent dangerous situations such as transmission of AIDS / HIV and the clumping of blood which eventually leads to death.
The most common transmission of HIV is through bodily fluids such as blood. During transfusions, the infected blood may be transferred from a carrier to a healthy individual. While the virus may be dormant in the donor, it might be activated once it comes in contact with the cells of the healthy person.
Blood typing is essential to ensure that only compatible blood groups are used during transfusions, otherwise the antigens and antibodies might accidently attack each other and reject the donor’s blood. In such a case, the new blood is clumped in the vessels which leads to clotting. Without treatment, it finally leads to death.
It is very important to do proper checking of blood before blood donation.
This is the reason when someone donates blood, few drops of sample is sent for through tests because that blood will run through another person’s vein.
If the blood has some dangerous virus, bacteria, it can cause life threatening diseases when injected to another patient.
