When a high current is passed through a wire for a long time it's resistivity increases and conductivity decreases because of the heating effect of wire thus energy loss increases. It also up to the wire quality and dimension, poor quality wire with lower diameter losses more power than a copper wire with sufficient diameter( eg. 2.5 mm copper wire can withstand up to 5Amp AC current at 220V)
