Hey there!
From the chapter, The dear departed.
We can understand that,
1) man have become too much selfish . The two daughters didn't care about father's death but were concerned about sharing things.
2) We can also see that Parents who cared us a lot, are not being cared.
3) We should do our best to serve our parents.
4) The father did right by telling that his property would go to the person who would care for him.
5) Old aged parents needs care ,we should care them more .
6) One more thing we can observe is Bad deeds never go unpunished .
7) If the daughter had not been that selfish regarding the things, she would have received something from her dad
8) Finally she received nothing.
Key aspect to be noted is : The hands which cared us & brought us deserves care . It's nothing something optional, it is compulsory it is our responsibility to fulfill all our parents needs.

The dear departed convey a very beautiful message of serving the old members of the family .the old people deserve great care and love .mrs slater and mrs jordan ,the real daughters of abel merryweather keep him not for affection and love but only for his money and things .they keep him for how much he will give him .it truly shows that the grandfather should received great care and attention from his daughters ,but what he received is neglet and inattention. Just see in this age he must have lived in peace with full care of his daughters but what he receives is pure greed and homelessness.his daughters are his own blood but they fight over what they should receive.
