We rub a hard rubber object with wool . We will observe that the rubber acquires a negative charge and the wool an equal amount of positive charge.
Actually rubber has higher electron affinity than wool. So,when they are rubbed together the rubber acquires a few electrons from the wool and  the rubber therefore acquires an excess of electrons and is negatively charged, while the wool is left with a deficit of electrons and is therefore positively charged.
But if wool is rubbed with a material having higher electron affinity, then wool becomes negatively charged. Suppose if we rub a glass rod on the wool, the rod gives electrons to the wool. Thus, the wool becomes negatively charged.
Similarly, if hard rubber is rubbed with material having deficit of electrons, then it becomes positively charged.
