Acid rain is caused due to the harmful effects of air pollutants. When compounds such as sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides react with the tiny droplets of water present in the atmosphere, they form sulphuric acid and nitric acid respectively. When the clouds become heavy and the water droplets fall on Earth as rain, these acids are too mixed with them, making them acidic in nature.
